heaven...Loch Linnhe from the canal down to Oban, lovely downwind sail with an average of 6knots.whirlpools,eddies,overfalls,tide rips and stunning scenery.castles surrounded by water and hills that go on forever!
We actually got kicked out of the Canal,(read yesredays blog)though when we'd picked up our mooring lasat night, and were the only visiting boat in the bay, I realised it was meant to be.
Here in Oban marina we are surrounded by hills and look out (from the bar) onto the town. There's a free ferry service, going from 07.00 to 24.00,every day!Water is a problem though,or not.The water comes from a spring and following a drought a few weeks ago the water ran out. They've managed to get enough water over from the mainland so we can shower, flush toilets and do washing, there is however, little water on the pontoons.Today they had some pressure and put it on then some dock head decided to wash his boat down and didn't care that the manager told him not too!I believe we boat people have a responsibility to take care of the marine environment and some attitudes astonish me!They also recycle everything here and that has also been a bone of contention for me during the whole trip. That is because MOST marina have NO recycling facilities at all, for domestic waste. One HM (Ian White,Lossie) told me he'd asked the council for bins to recycle and they council wanted to charge an astronomical rate. However, he got his way in the end. So,I can name the marinas I've visited with this facility (that I'd found).Eastbourne (albeit in the boatyard);Norfolk and Suffolk YC,Lowestoft;Peterhead;Lossiemouth Harbour and Oban.Any marinas i've visited that i've left out please contact me!
