Andy was sick in the night, so we wrapped him up and dosed him with homeopathic cures, plus a grog,of course, with honey and apple cider vinegar.
I awoke early, not only for the forecast, but also for the fishermen to come and move their boat.Frances the fisherman next door said he wouldn't be along until 06.00 so I did some jobs. When the fishermen came along I smoothed things over as they weren't too friendly to start, though i wasn't too happy with their big boots stomping all over my decks, they departed elegantly and i went back down below to find Andy still woozy.
The tide was imperative around the Lizard ,so Andy was given a deadline to get better by;we had to leave at 09.30 the latest and the weather forecast was predicting more weather the day after, we needed to get going, but I wasn't leaving if my crew was sick of course.
Andy recovered slighlty and we discussed what to do.There was not much wind and it was offshore, therefore it should by all intents and purposes be fairly comfortable.
We set off at 09.15 and i praised Andy for his courage, though during the trip he felt ill and weak again, so i did most of the work.
Passing the Lizard we had to motor as the wind actually died, but it was blue sky and an azure Atlantic swell to ride. After the Lizard we sailed again as the darkening clouds from the approaching front brought strongish breezes, still from the NW.Turning up to Falmouth we decided not to go and moor in Helford River the night as the forecast was poor and Andy neede to get ashore and maybe see a doctor,if he didn't improve.
Arrived at the Falmouth Visitors Yacht Haven at 17.30 and it was a wonderful sight with Cornish nyawls, crabbers, and shrimpers sailing on the fresh breeze around the bay and harbour.
Tied up alongside on the outside of two boats.i made a picnic dinner whilst we sat in the evening sun and we're glad to be here.Andy slept and i stowed and put up my RNLI flag.Andy's mum called him and said that becuase he was doing this trip she had donated £700 to the RNLI.Now I know it's worth telling people what I'm doing! |
