Saw three kittiwakes at eastbourne whilst walking by Martello Tower.very loud and distinct shrill.
Three boats in aline setting off around britain, Cari mari-Christine, with ray the skipper who is also raising awareness and money for varoious charities, including the RNLI and Marie-Curie.
Crew returned and we set of towards Dover. not plain sailing! My new radar reflector blew itself off the cross tree halyard and smashed itself to piecs on deck whilst we were hoisting the mainsail, then a fishing bouy ran along the the boat from stem to stern making an horrific sound. No damage but scary, as they are not lit and cannot always be seen even with the best eyes in a seaway.
Dover seemed to take forever.it di. 15 hours later after tacking out of Pevensey bay for 10 hours we rounded Dungeness and now the crew had settled in their watches and i could rest.Though they omitted to tell me they were going to takc and i woke with a start at the sound of flogging sails and harding up of sheets (ropes).
heard coastguard announce a Pan pan and sighting of red flare between Brighton and Eastbourne.probably some twit lighting a flare at a firework party!
Arrived at Dover and lovely to see a familiar landmark. The cliffs are beautiful though not as white as the Susssex ones (sorry, Kent). harbour though industrial with massive ferries and ships around is very friendly and personal. The marina welcomed us and thanks to Andrew garland at Premier, brighton we didn't have to pay.
Girls and i found alovely beach cafe and then went on the beach for a paddle. Girls fell asleep and I left them to it.Went backj and got things ship shape and made a gargantuan salad buffet as a treat for Julie's birthday and getting to port safely. Each trip has been a mini adventure and I'm slowly getting back in to the cruising ruitine, though tiring as it is.
Weather for weekend not good incressing wind and rain for the Thames. Hope to get to Ramsgate today. |
